SURPRISE Party ::: The Invites

My mom's birthday is at the end of the month. She has been so selfless the past year and a half---dedicating her life as the caregiver for dad as he battles bladder cancer. My sister and I decided that it would be fun to throw her a SURPRISE party! It would have to be a party of the surprise kind because she would never consent to it.

We pulled it off!!! She was SO surprised! I'll be sharing party details the rest of the week. For now, the invites.

First make 40 origami dresses.

Next type up the insert. Format it perfectly. Fight with my printer. Email file to sister at work. Re-format because her computer doesn't convert the correct fonts. Settle for the next best thing. Print them anyway because they have to go out in the mail ASAP.

Don't forget the labels!

In the envelopes they go!

Tomorrow: decorations.

Christmas in July

It's Christmas in July at FlyAKite!

We've marked ALL Christmas down 30%. Sale runs through the end of the month. Last day July 31. Handmade original stockings, cards, ornaments and present toppers. One week only!

When it rains, it pours

My life seems to be going through one of those "what more can they do to me" phases. I won't bore you with ALL the pathetic details, but this morning after a slight fender bender at the post office I sat in my car and cried. The older couple whose car I hit were very kind, which made me feel even worse.

With the fact that rent is due and I'm not going to win the half billion dollar lottery we're offering discount in both shops through April 5.

Use coupon code NEWBUMPER for either shop.

TOP SECRET

We just mailed a SUPER secret project proposal package to a MAJOR retailer that contacted us after seeing FlyAKite on etsy.com. Okay, it's not that secret, but we're trying not to jinx it. If things work out we'll be shouting it from the rooftops. And we'll be slaving away morning, noon and night to accomplish it.

Stay tuned and wish us luck!

Sock Monkey

Adorable, right?

We'll be introducing Mr. Sock Monkey to our FlyAKite shop soon. I just had to share him. He would already be in the shop, but I made him as a gift for my cousin and his wife who are expecting their first baby and I forgot to take his measurements. So as soon as I make another he will be available for purchase as a made to order item.

Tis the Season

I've been waiting for this day for months. Not this particular day, but I've been in the Christmas spirit for a really long time. Maybe because I started making Christmas stuff in August. I've been anxious to start listening to Christmas music. (I gave in and started singing carols last week).

For me, stretching out the holidays makes me feel less stressed and I get to enjoy them even longer. I know many folks out there get bent out of shape when Christmas is displayed before Halloween, but I would have been sad out of luck for the Christmas orders we've had since September without those jumping-the-gun retailers. Maybe it's my retail background, but I look forward to the festive displays and merchandise---regardless of when it starts.

The point of me telling you all this you ask? FlyAKite is fully stocked with ALL NEW Christmas ornaments and greeting cards. We've been busy little elves and the results are ADORABLE! (if I say so myself)

Share love and give a smile! Let us help you spread the holiday cheer!

NEW Card Designs At FlyAKite

They have arrived! FlyAKite welcomes two new designs to the shop. It's not all about the KITES. Although the kites are dang cute if you ask me. We now have quite a selection to choose from.

Just in time for Father's Day!

Desiree designed this card---I just perform the labor.

The Flower Bouquet cards are my new favorite! They are 3 dimensional and SUPER CUTE! Sewing the bouquet stems reminds me of the sewing cards we used to have as kids---the ones with the holes placed through pictures that you could stitch with a shoe lace. Remember? Its probably just because I am sewing with paper, but it is great fun to reminisce.

And as always, if you see a design you like but would like different colors---just let us know. We love custom orders and collaborations!

FlyAKite is official!

"When you send it flying up there,

All at once you're lighter than air!

You can dance on the breeze

Over houses and trees;

With your fist holding tight---

To the string of your kite!"

 Inspired by Mary Poppins, our new Etsy shop is FlyAKite. www.FlyAKite.etsy.com Check it out! I'm super excited about how these cards turned out. Each card is handpainted on acid free 90 lb. cold press watercolor paper. The kite is cut from recycled fabric scraps. The tails are hand tied and machine sewn to the card. Each card is one of a kind. I'm searching for boxes so that I can sell note card sets in the future. Wish us luck!
